Apparel and merch design
Hawkers apparel
Shirts, masks, uniforms and merch designed for Hawkers Asian Street Food, from Lunar New Year drops to charity collaborations.
The brief
Hawkers needed apparel that worked as hard as the brand. Most pieces were made for the team: shirts for servers to wear on shift, hats for the back of house, and special designs that marked milestones, like becoming a Certified Trainer or earning an award. The best pieces went on sale in the Hawkers merch store, so guests could take the brand home too.
My role
As creative director I led the apparel program and did most of the illustration and design myself. I also brought in outside illustrators from time to time to give back to the art community, which was a big part of what Hawkers stood for.
The system
- Shirts for servers to wear on their shifts
- Back-of-house hats, redesigned every few months
- Certified Trainer shirts and pieces given as awards
- Merch store releases for guests
- Custom face masks during COVID
- A shirt we hand-dyed ourselves in turmeric
- Guest artist collaborations with local illustrators
